Sib 6 + The Add Capo Chord plugin does not work if you choose more than 1 key
Posted by Bob Zawalich - 27 Mar 09:24PM (edited 01 Apr 05:20AM)
I have not tried this plugin for a long time.

The dialog seems to indicate the correct keys at the various capo positions (first screenshot Snap3 - piece is in F major).

If I choose just a single capo position it seems to work fine. I choose capo position3, key of D, and the chords are correct (screenshot snap2).

If I choose multiple keys, though, and start at bar 1 so I can see the fret text and key, the fret text looks good but only the first/lowest chords are correct. (snap1).

It is pretty obvious, since the first chord is the I that the capo chords should match the key names.

This happens from Sib 6 on. I will dig into this - it is a shipping plugin but I wrote it originally.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed this. Or do people just use a single capo position when using this? Or maybe just not use the plugin?

The plugin is indeed broken if you try to create more than 1 line of capo chord symbols at a time. You can create 1 line, then run it again for each additional like and it works fine, but if you click more than 1 checkbox, only the first line of chords will be correct.

This apparently has never worked, as the same failure exists in 6.2 and all later versions.

Also in Sib 7.5 and later, the dialog shows the values for D major on the A line, and the values for A major on the D line. So watch for that, though it does not affect the output.

So is avid going to give you the go ahead to see about repairs? Of course on a fee basis since they own it it appears.

I have figured out how to fix it and have told the Avid guys about it.

For now, at least, creating new chords in different keys one at a time should work fine, and I would guess that in most cases one alternate figuring will suffice.

This is still broken. Here is a note I added on a Facebook posting

For Sib 7.5 and on there is a problem with the dialog in the English version only. The problem is that the fret numbers for D/Bm and A/F#m are swapped. In fact, though, the chords will be put in the current transposition when added to the score, as you have noted.

There is an additional problem, which has been around longer, which is that if you want to add more than one set of capo chords at a time, they will be messed up.

I reported this some time ago and will report it again. I will try to see if I can add a corrected version of this plugin to the download page, but for now, the workarounds are to:

1. Trust the key name, not the fret number in the dialog (7.5+, English)
2. Only add 1 set of chords at a time.

If anything changes I will let you know.

A downloadable replacement plugin, Add Capo Chord Symbols(Fixed) is now available. It fixes the 2 described bugs.
