Daughter has produced some lovely compositions but struggles with the brass sounds in sib. To help her I have worked out how to use noteperformer within sib 7.1.3 which has improved the sound, have used ASIO4ALL to improve playback (now in time) and now want to export an audio file of her score to play on my phone-basically to show off to grandparents.
I have found the export audio feature and created wav. files which I think are 16 bit/44100. The files have content and seem to be playing (bar moves along etc) but I have no sound in itunes/wmp/Groove etc. I have restarted, closed and restarted between wav creation and trying to play it and all other tricks I can find on the advice forums (within reason). I am not sure where to look next.
Windows 10 on dell laptop with 4GB Ram and basic but respectable processor.
thank you to anyone who can advise this technically challenged mother.
Before making the audio export, ensure that nothing in the score is "selected" (in Sibelius terms). Pressing the ESC key twice will normally achieve this.
Then, before trying to play back the exported audio file, completely quit Sibelius (because ASIO4ALL in Sibelius will prevent any other application from playing anything back).
Is the exported audio file still silent after all that?

Thank you so much Robin,, but sadly the newly created wav file is still silent. Other music plays so it is not the ASIO stopping sound altogether in other apps. I do notice that there is a 'triplet' marking in the score that is red- would that be an issue even though there is nothing audible when it plays back?
Could you either (a) tell us the values of all the settings on the "Export Audio" dialogue, or (b) attach a screen-shot of that dialogue. Particularly important is the "Configuration" setting.

Also, if you see movement indicating playback, check that your windows player is set to use the default playback device. I've occasionally had audio sent to the headphones because something else had taken exclusive control of the speakers.
Another tip is to check the box "Release device when Sibelius is in background" in the Audio Engine options dialog.
Also, if you would like, I would be happy to send you an mp3 if you can send me the sib file (click on my name). While I know it doesn't solve your issue, at least you can let the proud grandparents hear your daughter's efforts.

Robin- I am attaching screenshots of settings (had to google how to do it!) I have also doublechecked that the problem also applies to a new test score I created, which it does.
Mike-thank you for taking the time to reply. There was no sound coming through headphones, release device already ticked. Thanks for your offer to convert the file to mp3- that is what I was going to do using itunes but the mp3 created is also silent. I may look into some other way of converting to see if I can get round the problem that way if other settings seem correct.
Use the Snipping Tool to make screenshots. Very easy in Windows 10, just press the Windows key then start typing 'Snipping Tool'. It will appear after the first few characters have been typed.
(I love 'basic but respectable processor'. You mean a cheap Intel, but you haven't sunk as low as AMD? Go on, SAY the name. We won't laugh. Promise. :-)
On the "Audio Engine Options" dialogue, please click on the button "Repair", then quit and restart Sibelius, then take another screen-shot of that dialogue and attach it. Does Export to Audio then work properly?
A propos of something else: the screen-shots reveal that we are not dealing with Sibelius in this thread, but Sibelius 7 First. This should not affect the audio export capability in this instance, but it could potentially make a big difference in other areas in which you might seek help in the future. So always declare that your question involves Sibelius 7 First, otherwise people will assume use of the full product.

Yes, you are right Robin. Very sorry, it is Sib First. I have tried the repair button which did not appear to do anything (no apparent reaction) and the audio engine page remains identical to that already posted. The noteperformer is the month trial version but I previously contacted them and was told it should export properly. However, if my settings in Sib are looking correct then I suspect it must be the noteperformer.
The cpu is intel M380 2.53 Ghz.
The soundcard is and amd hd audio device-ie built in and this is probably the source of the crackles on playback.
If there is nothing else obvious then I will put my energies into finding a workaround.
It should be easy to check whether audio export works using Sibelius 7 First Sounds instead of NotePerformer. If audio export fails with both, then the problem cannot be NotePerformer.
Could you check the exact version number of Sibelius 7 First: is it 7.1.2 or 7.1.3?

Hi Robin
Thank you. The version I am using is 7.1.3.78. The export works with sib sounds so that is lesson learned! It must be the noteperformer that is causing the problem or perhaps the ASIO4ALL which I had to switch to the laptop HD Audio device to get any sound either on playback or in the exported wav. As daughter is a trumpet player I do want to find a solution as the trumpet sounds are just so much better using noteperformer-overall it is just easier for her to cope with. However, now I know how our sib first 7 works I am considering buying noteperformer just for use in direct playback/composing anyway.
Anyway, thanks everyone for the support. So very much appreciated.
I need to apologise and hang my head in shame! The Noteperformer trial does not allow export of sound. I am admitting my stupidity in case it helps someone else. On the upside, I have learned a lot about how the software works which is pretty good from an absolute know nothing start a few days ago. Thanks everyone who endeavoured to help and especially Robin as I now have confidence that I have the settings correct going forward.
