Snap system text to barline?
Posted by ap1987 - 14 Mar 08:55PM
Hello Everybody,

I'm preparing a score, which has a lot of quaver = quaver-like "metric modulations". My problem with the text style is that it should be fixed to the barline and centered, just like a rehearsal mark. Is it possible to do this with a general setting or I have to do this one by one manually? I can't find any option for this in the Edit Text Styles window. I've already tried to copy the Rehearsal Mark text style and set the font to the same as Tempo text, but the position becomes not fixed in the cloned version. It seems as being the unique setting of the Rehearsal Mark text style. I hope I'm wrong...

Thanks in advance,
Peter

This is a tricky one, as you would presumably want the metric modulation to be centered on a barline mid-stave but left-aligned when it came at the start of a line.

It should look like on the image attached. Allignment: just like a rehearsal mark.

Yes, but what if the change is at the beginning of a stave?

Why the parentheses? q=q. No need to be apologetic about it.

If it's at the beginning, then it should be indicated at the end of the previous staff also... another problem. About allignment? Good question. If there's a time signature, I would put it like having the = sign and the time signature itself in one column. If no time signatures, then maybe to the beginning of a staff, and yes, left-alligned.

Parentheses: I wouldn't do that in my compositions. But in this case, it's not my autograph, and the composer wants to have everything exactly the same way as he does. I should respect that.

I wouldn't worry about stating it twice at a line break. Musicians look ahead.

But you take my point that any automatic positioning is often going to be wrong?
