Sibelius Sounds not installing

Ok so, I was wanting to export one of my compositions as an mp3, but i found out the playback configuration I had (General MIDI) didn't contain virtual instruments. So after asking the help of my teacher who uses Sibelius, I figured out that I hadn't downloaded Sibelius Sounds, do I went to my products and clicked the download link. So once the zip file for Sibelius sounds was on my computer i extracted it and ran the installer. After the installer finished I assumed it's be done and I'd be able to use it. But it didn't install anywhere? I have no clue what the installer even did as nothing changed on my computer. After searching online I found that there should be a .xml file that I copy into a "sounds" folder. But no such file exists on my computer? Help please!!

Please supply more information.

Is this on Mac OS or on Windows? On what version of that system?

Have you restarted the operating system after the sounds installation?

What evidence leads you to think that nothing has changed on your computer? What were you expecting to see?

What was the exact precise name of the installation file that you downloaded, unzipped, and installed?

Have you tried running Sibelius and selecting "Sibelius 7 Sounds" as Playback Configuration? What is the reault of that?

It's on Windows 10. I have tried restarting.

Like I said, nothing HAS changed on my computer. So it's more like the lack of any evidence has caused me to conclude this.

The folder I downloaded was called "Sibelius_Sounds_7_5_0_Win_81290.zip"

And I have tried running Sibelius. There was no playback configuration called Sibelius 7 Sounds. I may be new to Sibelius but I assure I'm not so dumb that I wouldn't check Sibelius to see if my configuration installed.

If there's any other missing information that you need I'd be happy to tell you.

I didn't understand what you meant by Playback Devices but I have a screenshot of the Audio Engine Options for General MIDI (Basic)

I suspect you downloaded an updater, not the whole library. Sibelius sounds is a huge download and will take hours to complete. It will then take hours to unpack and install.

Nope! The download took nearly 6 hours and then another 3+ to install. I'm PRETTY SURE I GOT THE REAL THING. Unless the download for Sibelius sounds is even LARGER.

The screen-shot of "Audio Engine Options" shows that your PC or Windows has a serious problem: there is no audio output device available for Sibelius to use. This can, for instance, be caused by faulty or out-of-date Windows Device Drivers.

What is the brand and model number of sound card on this PC? If you do not know, just press on with the next question.

Was this Windows 10 installation an upgrade from an earlier version of Windows on the same PC? (this is usually how people end up with out-of-date Device Drivers).

Please do the following:
- click Start -> Avid -> "Sibelius User Data";
- in the folder that opens, open sub-folder "PlogueEngine";
- from the folder "PlogueEngine", double-click the file "PlogueEngine_x64.log" so that it opens into NotePad;
- in NotePad, Select All (Ctrl-A), and Copy (Ctrl-C);
- back in this thread in this forum Paste (Ctrl-V) the entire text of the PlogueEngine log into your next post.

Post that off as soon as you can. Then do the following:

- right-click "Start" and select "Device Manager";
- in Device Manager, pull down the "View" menu and select "Show hidden devices";
- expand the section titled "Sound, video and game controllers";
- for each device listed in this section, EXCEPT "Microsoft Streaming..." or "Microsoft Trusted...", do the following in turn:
-- note down the name of the device;
-- double-click the device name to open its Properties;
-- in its Properties, click tab "Driver";
-- copy down the information in the lines "Driver Date" and "Driver Version"
-- click "Cancel" to close Properties;
-- repeat above for all items in the list.
- then copy the assembled names, dates, and versions, into your next post in this thread.

When we have seen all that information, we should be able to give you a specific remedy for the issue.

I don't know the answer to the first question sorry.

It was not an upgrade, when I got this computer it already had Windows 10 Installed.

But I realized this is tied in with a problem I had earlier. When I first downloaded Sibelius an error message popped up. I don't remember exactly what it said but it was along the lines of "Audio Engine Error: Bad Settings." This error caused Sibelius to not produce any sound whatsoever. I found a forum that told me to delete PlogueEngine. I backed it up in a different folder but deleted it from Sibelius, this did fix the error and the sound was fixed. Do you still need a screenshot of the File? Also it wasnt a folder. It was just a file called PlogueEngine_x64.

Also I think something else I did in an attempt to fix the error might be helpful. My computers entire sound was also not working and I troubleshooted this, it told me to replace what I think may be the "Device Driver" youre talking about with an earlier version. This fixed the computers audio but not Sibelius's so that's what led me to delete PlogueEngine etc.

Ok and when I went to the Device Manager, under Sound, Video and game controllers, There are 2 devices Both are just called High Definition Audio Device and they both have identical Driver Dates and Driver Versions

Driver Date: 7/15/2016
Driver Version: 10.0.14393.0

We still need a copy of the entire text contents of the PlogueEngine_x64.log file: all of it (as described above), not just a screen-shot of part of it.

It should not be too big to paste the plain text into this forum.

Ok. I physically cannot paste Plogue Engine. Its a VERY VERY big file, like its a wall of text, my computer freezes everytime I try to paste it.

How many lines long is this text? It's usually only a few hundred lines, and easily pastable. Are you sure that you have opened the correct file? The name must be precisely: "PlogueEngine_x64.log"

The first line of the file should look approximately like this:
I:0x 510:6408:2680854572:C:\Users\rdhw\AppData\Roaming/Avid/Sibelius/PlogueEngine/PlogueEngine_x64.log opened on: Tue Feb 21 20:48:37 2017

As for the screen-shot of "Audio Engine Options": do you actually have the correct "Interface" selected? Is that Interface "2" the one to which you have the speakers connected? What are the other options for that "Interface" pull-down menu?

And what about the screen-shot for the "Playback Devices" dialogue? That's the one with the "Audio Engine Options" button in it, so you must have already found it.

I've been experiencing potentially the same problem. I've installed Sibelius and Sibelius Sounds, but when I open Playback Devices, Sibelius Sounds isn't listed on the Audio devices column. I've definitely installed it, it took all day to download and unpack. I'm desperate to export an audio file but the only playback option is General MIDI which of course doesn't work. Any suggestions?

- on Windows, or on macOS?
- what version number of Sibelius?
- what tier of Sibelius (30-day trial, Sibelius First, Sibelius, or Sibelius Ultimate)?

Why do you say that "General MIDI doesn't work"?
