Vertical alignment of lyrics

I've nearly completed the setting of a choral piece, and am entering the lyrics. I've discovered that selecting a lyric word, phrase, or line and tapping the down-arrow results in the selected lyrics moving up a whole space. CTRL-downarrow will move the lyric selection back to its original location, but not below it.

The lyric selection can be dragged down (or up) with the cursor, and CTRL-SHIFT-R will restore alignment with other elements on that line. The up-arrow key delivers the expected result.

I have not encountered this behaviour in other settings. What's going on? What can I do to restore proper movement with the down-arrow key?

Hi,

I cannot reproduce your issue. My arrow keys do exactly as expected.

I would start by checking your keyboard shortcuts, to make sure nothing has been (accidentally) changed.

I notice you are on 8.4. A number of things were fixed in 8.5 (though a few more were broken) so I would attempt the update.

Rob, please attach a Sibelius .sib score file that exhibits this issue, and point us to the lyric syllable in question.

Not just one lyric syllable is affected. All lyrics throughout the score cannot be moved downwards with the down-arrow. They can be dragged with the cursor, but that's a nuisance and isn't all that accurate.

I cannot reproduce the issue with the score posted above. All arrow-key adjustments of lyrics work normally, as expected.

That doesn't surprise me. I'm working on other scores as well. No problem with any of them. Yet.

I've attached a copy of the errant file to another reply in this thread.

I'll give that a try. Though I would have preferred not to do that in the middle of a commission.

Since others cannot reproduce the issue, the cause must lie in your Sibelius installation with its preferences and settings.

Does this problem affect all your scores, or just this one?

Have you re-defined the keyboard shortcuts? What happens if you revert to the Sibelius default keyboard shortcut definitions?

Only this one. So far.

I haven't (deliberately) re-defined any keyboard shortcuts. But I'll go find the "revert to default" and do that, just in case. I'd have already done that; unfortunately, I've forgotten where that setting is, and the on-line help was no help. The User Guide is my next stop.

In the meanwhile, for what it's worth: I've discovered that other text is similarly afflicted. At least, technique and expression styles are affected. Don't know about others, yet. Text on the title page is unaffected; likewise composer and copyright text.

You get the gold star. Updating to v8.5 seems to have done the trick. And if updating has caused other problems, I've yet to find them.
