Sibelius 8.5 Issues
Posted by Clifford Jones - 29 Dec 03:36AM
I've just installed Sibelius 8.5 and it is terrible. It took over 1 hour to load one of my scores from 7.5. The program is holding my hard drive hostage. It keeps accessing my hard drive constantly, even when I'm not running Sibelius. I know this because I can see some stuff running in the background when I run task manager. Was this done deliberately? Help!!!!!!

Clifford - be assured, this is not typical. It seems likely that there is something else preventing Sib 8.5 from running smoothly.

Please provide a little more information (hardware platform (especially hard drive space and RAM), OS and version, processor and speed, previous Sibelius installations, other ancillary (music) software in use, score size etc) and we will do our best to help :-)

Good luck!

I wonder if the Application Manager is involved here?

Windows 10 startup (and Windows 8 before it) takes a good 5 minutes after booting up for the disk access to settle down from 100%. Application Manager and helper definitely seem to be the cause on my machine.
@Clifford, you can track this through the Processes tab in Task Manager. Click on Disk to sort in descending usage order.

FWIW I have been getting 'There are two feeds available' every boot since I installed 8.5 several weeks ago - even though I'd have said that I've 'serviced' (acted upon/acknowledged/dismissed) them many times.

Perhaps the AppMan is trying to be helpful in some other way?

Thanks for the help folks. I appreciate your feedback. It seemed to be the app manager. I uninstalled Sibelius 8.5 and the app manager and now I can use my computer again running Sibelius 7.5. It works great with 7.5. I don't have time to trouble shoot what is going on with the new software. I'm so disappointed and upset at the poor performance of Sibelius 8.5!!!!! Really!!!!!

@Mark - click on the down arrow at the top-right corner of Application Manager. Click on Notifications then untick Show Feeds.

Thanks, Russell!

Good idea because we hear when a new version appears in many other ways… Yes :-)

I want to try and install 8,5 again so, I purchased a new computer just so I can have a safe place to try the new software. I can't take the chance that 8.5 will destroy my current working older computer (make it unusable) like it did the first time. Does anyone know how I can go about switching 8.5 to a different machine? It has been de-installed (removed from my old computer).

Did you remember to deautherize that copy before you removed it?
Two installation activation's are allowed. So just go and install on your new computer.
