Multiple problems

Having many problems with Sibelius 8 using Windows 8. Would you advise us to uninstall and reinstall? How do we do this?

Uninstallation and re-installation, as a general rule, never fixes anything.

If you want to do it, just uninstall Sibelius from the Windows control panel "Programs and Features", then re-install using the latest Sibelius installer. But the chances are that nothing will change: anything that was previously going wrong will continue to go wrong. This is because re-installation only re-installs read-only files, that were in their original state to begin with.

Problems tend to be based in areas where files can be written (scores, preferences, settings), and such files are not changed by a re-installation.

So maybe follow the advice Robin has previously supplied on how to completely clean out Sibelius:

Just a word of caution on those old threads: they were written for a specific version of Sibelius. Anyone following them for a different version (Sibelius 8, say) would need to make appropriate adjustments to account for the version change.

And as to the original post: we have no idea whether the "multiple problems" are ones that could be ameliorated by resetting Sibelius preferences and settings. There is a lack of information.

I would suspect out of date sound card drivers for a start!

Thank you for your replies.
I am 78 years old and was a musician for many years - I have very little computer knowledge so would appreciate reply(ies) in very simple terms.
Using Sibelius 8 with Windows 8 and GPO JABB 3 is showing many problems.
1.Music is deleted from scores.
2. Loading stops on 'initializing playback system' for up to several minutes before continuing.
3. Scores are deleted into recycle bin.
4. When playing back it sometimes jumps forward to random bars e.g. bar 1 to bar 103.
There are other problems such as notes changing colour etc.

Hmm ... that is pretty bizarre.

When you say "music is deleted from scores", do you mean that notes / bars are being spontaneously deleted from scores?

When you say "scores are deleted into recycle bin", does that happen spontaneously as well (without you doing anything)?

The playback might be related to a particular repeat sign, it would be helpful if you attach the score that is giving you problems.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, notes/bars are spontaneously removed and yes, scores are deleted without me doing anything. Will double check on the playback leap forward.

The problems on this machine are, I suspect, nothing to do with Sibelius. I suggest that you take the PC to an expert on Windows and/or hardware, to investigate what is going wrong.

At least one item on your list "Scores are deleted into recycle bin" cannot be performed by Sibelius: the only way for files to be put into the recycle bin is for a keyboard or mouse command to instruct Windows Explorer to do that.

Maybe the keyboard and/or mouse is producing false inputs. Maybe the processor is overheating. Maybe there is malware in the PC. Only a hands-on expert will be able to diagnose the situation.

Have you considered doing a thorough anti-virus scan, Peter?

Good luck!
