Hi I am trying to insert a 1/8 pickupbar at the start of the next song in my booklet for christmas carols.
Is there a nice way of doing this?
In my attemt when using the plug in it allways puts it at the beginning of song 1.

Insert some empty bars for your new song using [ctrl]b. Set the TS now.

Mark the last bar of the previous song as a section end and give it a final barline.

Select the first bar of the new song and set a gap before. This will help when inserting the irregular bar. Use

Home->Bars->Add->Multiple or irregular or the rt-click menu.

Add your 1/8th length bar (choose from the dropdown list). You will need to be quite careful how you place it with the mouse!
I have found that selecting the first empty bar does not place the irregular bar before it! Use the mouse to insert the bar.

Once you have it in place, add the timesignature to the irregular bar, using 'more options' from the bottom of the list. This will allow you to untick 'rewrite bars up to next ts'.

Done.

Of course, there is a plugin to do this - Add pickup bar. This will add an irregular bar at the start of the music or before the selected bar (Radio button).

Thank you so much Mike that works. Even though now I can't rememaber if I did it exactly like you described....
But not with the plugin you mentionend. No matter how I format it, it allways puts the pickup bar at the beginning of the score.
I attache the score. Maybe you see where the problem is?

The Add Pickup Bar plugin should let you add a pickup bar anywhere. (see screenshot).

You don't really need it if you are not at the start of the score, though. The issue of moving system text to the new bar is only present at the start of a score, so you could just create an irregular bar for the interior pickup.

The downloadable plugin Resize Bar is also very useful for pickup bars. You can use it to shrink the first bar to a desired size. You can also use it to shrink the bar at the end of the section that corresponds to the pickup, if you choose that style.

Resize Bar handles the issues with system objects at the start of the score as well, so it is a pretty nice general solution as well.

Thank you Bob and Mike...
It is like in this famous video where one is asked to count how many times a player dressed in white receives the ball. And people like me concentrate so hard on the task that we don't see the (the clearly visible monkey) walking through the field.
Thats how I feel when the solution would have been so much into my face...Thanks again.
