Across two bars, I have a semi-breve in all four of my five strings staves. I have tied each of these semi-breves to a crotchet in the next bar. There isn't any further notation in this second bar, just rests. Dynamics are marked from mp at the start of the semi-breve through a decrescendo at the end of the crotchets marked as pp.

Why then on playback am I getting a lovely decrescendo through the first semi-breve and then a noticeable re-articulation/playing of the crotchet in the second bar? I appreciate that it's to do with the bowing but it's really quite loud and no matter what I do regarding dynamic and/or articulation, the sustained notes don't just die away; they each play again and quite suddenly which is ruining the effect that I want.

Are you sure that you used ties, or were they slurs? They look similar but act differently. Your description sounds as if a slur was used. Please attach the score so that we can figure out what is happening.

Change the playback tempo of the score. If the re-triggering still comes at the same place, suspect a slur/tie confusion. If at a different place, we're probably looking at a quirk of the sample being used.
