Crash on Start
Posted by davidmorse47 - 24 Aug 05:21PM
My freshly installed Sib 8 crashes immediately on startup. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling, it crashes instantly.

Help anyone?

This is probably an issue with the Windows Device Drivers for the sound hardware: they are probably out of date after the PC was updated to Windows 10.

Please open Windows "Device Manager", and expand "Sound, video and game controllers". For each item in turn in the list:
- note down the full name as displayed;
- right-click and choose "Properties";
- in "Properties", click tab "Driver";
- note down the "Driver Date" and "Driver Version";
- report back to us on the names, dates, and version numbers of each device.

Pay NO ATTENTION to Device Manager if it tells you that device drivers are up to date: in most case it has no way of knowing.

When we see the information from above, we can advise further on a course of action.

OK, I need extra information on those two, as those are generic drivers that do not identify the product.

Please go back into Device Manager, select the device, then go to Properties, then tab Details. In the "Property" pull-down, select "Hardware IDs", then copy the "Value" information into your next post. Repeat for both devices.

Also, please do:
- Start -> All Apps -> Avid -> Sibelius User Data;
- in the folder that opens, open sub-folder "PlogueEngine";
- in "PlogueEngine", open file "PlogueEngine_x64.log";
- copy the contents of the log file, and paste into your next post.

Thanks.

Please temporarily uninstall ASIO4ALL, and see whether Sibelius then launches.

If you re-install it, make sure that it is the latest version from http://www.asio4all.com/

Some more questions:

- are there any VSTs installed that Sibelius is trying to link to?
- check the contents of

C:\Program Files\Avid\VSTPlugins

and report on any file found there.

It opens. Thank you. ASIO4ALL is the driver for FL Studio, so Sibelius/FL users should know there is a driver problem when using those programs.

This problem also happened with Sib 7 First, but only when trying to open it in 64bit mode. 32 worked fine.

Anyhow, all good. Thanks.

Sibelius should be fine with ASIO4ALL, provided the version of ASIO4ALL is up-to-date from http://www.asio4all.com/

That may be because Sib 8 is 64bit only!
