Having selected them, you can Hide them.

If you don't select them, how will they know you want to hide them?
This reminds me of Ludwig van B, except that blockflutes haven't yet been mentioned.

If you Hide rests then copy/paste the music they stay hidden. But if they were deleted, they come back.

This may be a good time to remind of the basic rule - get all the notes on the page, THEN worry about layout detail.

There's also a plugin Hide Rests In Voice, but it may not be much easier than the already mentioned method of using the filter to select them and then hiding them. There doesn't seem to be a way to set a preference or default so that they are hidden right away.

It certainly is good practice to hide rests in double stemmed writing so that they don't clutter up the staff. But often it is a case by case, measure by measure issue where you want to consider whether the rests clarify, confuse, or duplicate. So often it's a good thing that a human eye is required.
