Sib 8.4: Most often-used Plug-ins, grouping - ideally into a 'Favourites' folder/object?
Posted by Mark K Sealey - 17 Jul 11:40PM (edited 18 Jul 12:52AM)
Apart from assigning Keyboard Shortcuts to most often-used Plug-ins and then creating a laminated card for those Shortcuts (!), is there any way that one's most useful Plug-ins can be made more readily available and/or otherwise grouped, please?

Ideally into a folder (etc) of 'Favourites".

TIA!

I suggest that you install the My Plugins plugin and give it a shortcut and set it up with your favorite plugins. It gives you a list of plugin you can run from there. Much simpler to set up than redoing the menus.

Run Plugins By Name is what I use. It puts the most recently used plugins at the top of the list so you have a changing working set which is nice if you use lots of different plugins. My Plugins gives you a fixed set so you can learn the internal shortcuts. I find uses for both of them

I have nearly all the plugins on my systems so naturally it takes a long time to read through them when I use "Run Plugins By Name," so I have found that a folder of Favorites of the 15 most used is quicker for me.

You may find this useful for using this plugin.

you might have a look at My Plugins which lets you put up to 35 plugins into the list and they do not change.

I keep a working set of 20 plugins in Run Plugins By Name so the last 20 I ran are always at the top of the list and easy to find, plus the others are in an alphabetical list. But if you really want a consistent set of favorites, which can include both downloadable and shipping plug-ins, My Plugins works really well for that.
Fixed Shortcuts also gives you a fixed set of plugins and it has some powerful features but I think My Plugins is easier to set up.

Thanks, Bob - that's extremely helpful and much appreciated!

When I run it, I do get - in the Trace Window - several blocks with:

'… … … was found in multiple locations, most recently: … … …'

Is that meant to be?

What that means is that you have multiple copies of the same plugin. This is not good, and you have no control over which copy of the plugin will be run.

My plugins that run other plugins are aware of this problem and warn you about it, telling you where all the copies are located. You should get rid of all but one copy of a specific plugin. For the gory details, have a look at the Of Note Post
