Sibelius 8.4.1
Posted by Joe @ Sibelius - 30 Jun 05:46PM
Hi everyone,

Sibelius 8.4.1 is now available!

It contains a single fix for an issue that could prevent subscription users from running Sibelius.

If you're already successfully running 8.4.0 there is no need to update.

To those affected by the issue, thanks for your patience. To the Sibelius team, thanks for turning around a quick fix.

Best wishes,

Joe

I was affected by this issue, and my thanks to the team for fixing it, but I can't see the update. My Application Manager just shows Version: 8.4.0.96 and then the "current" symbol.

Pull down the menu and select "Sync Account", and wait for it to finish.

The version number shown will always be the number of the version currently installed. If "UPDATE" is shown, click "What's New?" to discover the version number on offer by the update.

I've downloaded the install file (.dmg for Mac OS X) and opened it, double clicked.

But stuck at "verifying "Install Sibelius""...

the .dmg file isn't damaged.

Is the file wrongly builded? Can anyone tell?

How do you know this? Is the downloaded file of the same length as it is declared to be on the download page?

It should be 970,813,236 bytes in length.

Lex,

We have noticed that it's taking a long time to perform the initial verification of .dmg disk images (generally, not just Sibelius). We are looking into it. Does it eventually complete?

If not, it might be worth re-downloading the file as suggested.

I have the same type of problem. I get to "Introduction" on the "Install Sibelius" box but the "Go Back" and "Continue" buttons are grayed out and I'm stuck here. It happened with 8.4.0 as well. What do I do at this point? I have a perpetual or permanent license.

Try shutting down the Mac OS, then freshly starting the Mac OS again. Then try the Sibelius installation.

I am now getting a hang perpetual 'Authentication…' + spin - e.g. in the Application Manager's 'Account' tab.

Anyone else?

Anyone know of a fix, please?

TIA!

It happens under Windows OS also.
Just do as Robin has suggested and restart the OS to get it to clear the hang and restart the App Manager correctly.

Unfortunately, no luck. Same problem after shutting down and re-starting. It takes a long time to get to the Sibelius Installer and then the installer hangs on the introduction screen with the "Continue" and "Go Back" buttons grayed out. Every time I restart, the Application manager has the blue "Install" link to the right of "Sibelius" which I click but the result is always the same. I'm using a 2008 White Macbook running 10.11.5.

You may need to directly download 8.4.1 from your avid account and install the download once you place it on your desktop.

Hi Ralph,

I downloaded the Sibelius 8.4.1 file from my account as you suggested. I double-clicked on it and the "Verifying Sibelius 8.4.1" window came up a minute later but nothing happened. It just hangs there. I opened a case with Avid support and filled out the info online. I've never had a problem with the 8.x downloads before. This is new and hopefully, not repeated in the future.

Is there an anti-virus utility present on this Mac?

It took a few hours for the 8.4.1 update to complete on my Mac Pro running Yosemite. Avid Application Manager froze during and after the installation. It cannot be force quit. If I try to launch Avid Application Manager it says:

The application "AvidApplicationManager" is not open anymore.

I have gotten this sort of nonsense from Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop application (an application manager). I am distressed to see this now happening with Avid Application Manager.

I assume all will be well after a reboot.

HI Robin,

I have Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac installed. It has been on my computer for over a year and every Sibelius update since 8.0 has updated perfectly with it installed.

Hello Again,

I'm adding two screen shots to this e-mail. One shows the installation failing when I click "Install" in the Avid Application Manager. The other shows the installation failing when I quit the Application Manager and then go to the website, sign in and download the dmg file from there. Either way the result is the same -- fail! I hope both files were uploaded but I can't tell if they were.

There was only one attachment.

You seem to have a Mac OS problem here.

What is the name of the internal Mac OS disk volume (normally "Macintosh HD")?

Hi Robin,

The drive is entitled "OWC Drive" because it's an Other World Computing SSD with 184 GB available. Miraculously, I re-downloaded the file from the Avid website and even though I received error messages, it finally went through and installed. I can't explain it although I did a Sophos scan, a TechTool scan and a Malwarebyte scan before installing Sibelius. In spite of that I still received an error window message that read, " Sibelius 8.4.1-Mac dmg image not recognized." While I was doing a Sophos scan I received a large error window that was titled, "Failed to Delete Current Token." I have no idea what this means but will be researching it shortly. Thanks for your input.

Bill
