GPO 5 Creating New Sound Set
Posted by Geoff Kingston - 22 Jun 03:57PM
Having recently purchased GPO5 I have since found that there is currently no Sibelius generic sound set. Have been advised to create my own using Manual Sound Set. Although my other libraries are displayed - see attached - GPO 5 is not there. It has been installed and in the ARIA folder within the C Drive along with the rest but it is not showing in the pull-down menu. Not sure how I can create a set if GPO5 is not displayed. Help/advice please.

What is displayed in the attachment above is a list of installed SoundSets for ARIA sample libraries. Since there is no SoundSet for GPO 5, it cannot be listed.

For working with GPO 5, you will need to select "(none)".

Hi Robin, thanks as usual. Still a little confused. When I select 'none' where do I draw the GPO5 sounds from? - they are still not listed.

Because there is no GPO 5 soundset, there will be no listing of sounds, because the sounds available are unknown. You have to manually load sounds into an ARIA VST user interface, into a specific MIDI channel number. Then, in Sibelius, manually configure a Manual Sound Set, ordered by the channel numbers you have used in ARIA, and assign a Sibelius SoundID to the sound you have placed on that channel. You have to know a fair bit about SoundIDs to get this right.

It's probably better (ie less stressful) to await developments from Avid or the Soundset Project (Jonathan Loving) to produce one. These are the truly experienced people in this field.

Thanks again. Is there a idiots step-by-step guide to configuring a manual sound set using ARIA and GPO5?

You could start with the Sibelius Reference:
6.15 Virtual instruments for beginners
6.16 Working with virtual instruments

The methods for GPO 5 are no different to the methods for any other sample library without a SoundSet file.

You might find this helpful: http://www.sibelius.com/download/SoundWorld.pdf

I don't think anyone has written any other guide.

Thanks Mike. Yes, it seems that it may be better to wait out for a professional sound set rather than thrash around trying to produce a home-grown solution.
