Many users find that to be the case.

First, check that you are using the latest version of Avid Application Manager (2.5.6 at the time of writing). If you need to update, you can download the latest version from:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/download/Avid-Application-Manager
then install it.

Secondly, if Avid Application Manager is definitely stuck, then try the following:
- use Mac OS "Activity Monitor" to force-quit "AvidApplicationManager";
- then use it again to force-quit "AvidAppManHelper";
- then launch a fresh instance of Avid Application Manager from:
Applications -> Avid -> Application Manager -> AvidApplicationManager.app

That should get Avid Application Manager working again.

It looks as if Avid Application Manager does not recover gracefully from the system being put to sleep and resuming. And sometimes Avid Application Manager does not start properly when Mac OS is freshly re-started.
