Sibelius - the leading music composition and notation software

In the Full Score, add a random instrument to the score, then delete it again. Does that fix it?

Dear Robin, many thanks for the suggestion, but regrettably didn't work. Indeed the new part for the added random instrument also didn't have the Part name as a header. I think I initially saved a file as Manuscript Paper with this instruction, so I might have to start all over again!

If you show hidden objects in the ribbon, does the part name appear in grey? If not, then the partname text object has been deleted.

In the score (not the part) make sure nothing is selected then

rt-click and choose Text->Special text->Instrument name at top left

Type \$partname\ then click away

If you have done it correctly, You should see "Full Score". Now right-click the text and choose Hide or Show->Show in parts

The text of "full score" should then be greyed out (hidden) but it should be visible in the parts as the Instrument name.

Dear Mike, thanks very much for your suggestion. That certainly works, but that only seems to create the text on the first page of the part, not each page. And I notice that 'Instrument names' in 'Special Text' just applies the name at the point of typing. Many thanks, tyrone

You have to apply it to the score, not the part and also, if you want to have it as a header on subsequent pages, you have to have the \$headerpartname\ text object at the top of the page (also hidden in the score).

Make sure you use "instrument name at top left", not "instrument name" - these are two quite different text objects!

Tyrone, please read the final clause in my first sentence:
