Originally it was actually a $599 penalty fee for those who didnt subscribe or fell off the wagon after subscribing, and in either case wanted to get back on again.
Then it was reduced to $299--a good move, but not quite enough..and it was done because users complained, and moreso with Dorico's release coming very soon.
And it came with this explanation:
"Existing Sibelius users will find that the discount that they have enjoyed in the past, as loyal customers, has been restored. The introductory upgrade price of $89 will end June 30, 2016. After that, the cost to upgrade from Sibelius 1-7.5 to Sibelius 8 will be $299 – a discount of $300."
I'm sorry-WHAT discount has been restored? It seems to say a discount of $300 has been restored, that was enjoyed in the past? People already paid for the program, so what is this discount?
We also find out that ONLY the long time users who are NOT in education will suffer this penalty, (or "enjoy this restored discount"). Those is education can jump off and on the subscription wagon as they please with NO punishment, EVER.
So why do educational people escape this "punishment" payment?
Is it because they presumably make less money than the norm? (as do ALL of us on disability, low fixed income, Soc Security, small pensions, etc?) . And this really isnt true, as teachers salaries arent all that bad, and students are paying good money to attend schools so they also could certainly afford this penalty fee.
Or is it because AVID doesn't want to mess with or alienate its education market (as opposed to alienating and messing with ALL the rest of us facing this punishment payment?)
Now Im *not* saying that people in education should ALSO have to pay this punishment...NOT at ALL! But that NO ONE should have to pay ANY kind of punishment. its only fair.
And placing a HUGE monetary punishment barrier-299 bucks-- to getting back on after falling off etc isnt going to make people WANT to get back on, or even be able to AFFORD to get back on..so you dont regain those customers back.
So again, please WHY this punishment that ONLY affects long time loyal users--like those answering questions on the forum, and by whose recommendation Sib was bought by many in the past, and who helped by their suggestions to help make Sib what it is, and people who write free plugins, free instructional videos, etc? For my money its a huge slap in the face of these loyal long time users, and doesnt say THANK YOU at all..and it needs to be done away with immediately, out of fairness and respect to the loyal long time user.
Thank you for your time and explanation. Its greatly appreciated
Bob
