Sibelius on 2nd Computer?

I am a piano teacher. I have Sibelius 8 on my PC. Last week I bought a new iMac for my piano studio and I was wondering if it possible to load the Sibelius software (which came in a box as a CD-Rom as version 5, originally)...but then I purchased the upgrade for Sibelius 8, which is a download.

Your Sibelius licence permits you to activate Sibelius on up to two computers, provided both are for your own personal use.

You now need to download Sibelius 8 for Mac (from your account on http://my.avid.com ), and install it on your Mac. Then activate it using the same credentials as you used for Sibelius 8 on your PC.

I am running into a problem. When I try to load the version 5 CD onto the iMac, an error message is displayed:
"Your serial number appears to be corrupted. Please contact technical help quoting the following number:"
But no number is listed.

Why are you trying to install Sibelius 5 onto a new iMac?

There are two problems with that:
- new versions of Mac OS are no longer compatible with Sibelius 5, so it will tend to crash;
- your ability to activate new installations of Sibelius 5 with your old serial number was revoked when you upgraded to a Sibelius version later than 5.

You do not need to install Sibelius 5 in order to upgrade to Sibelius 8. Just install Sibelius 8.

The whole story: I have Sibelius 8 (purchased as a download). I think I misread your reply to my OP and I thought I had to install version 5 (CD Rom) first and *then* install the version 8 download. Maybe I just have to go directly to the download...

My original computer (a PC) died. I transferred my Sibelius files onto another PC. Now I am trying to install version 8 onto a brand new iMac. Is this considered my second computer or, technically, my third computer?

The number of computers is determined by the number of simultaneous activations of the Sibelius application, not by where the score files are stored.

If your old PC died before you de-activated Sibelius on it, then you have lost one of your allowed two activations. You should contact Avid support directly so that they can release the activation of the dead PC.
