Sibelius 8.4 release predictions?
Posted by Greg Jones - 27 May 01:15AM
Given that it's over a month since we had the last update (8.3), some bugs are going to be fixed up in the newest update and Avid's still keeping up on the monthly updates as promised, I've been thinking: is everyone almost ready for Sibelius 8.4?

Quite frankly if they don't stop introducing new bugs with each update is it any better than a two year release schedule (cycle) with minor bug fixes in the interim as was in the past?

What I'm ready for is a stable application with NO new bugs introduced.

Feeling frustrated!!!

+1

>two year release schedule (cycle) with minor bug fixes in the interim as was in the past?

And theres was a big difference in the features too, IMHO. This was due to the team itself, and them not having the pressure of pumping out updates about every month, due to a subscription plan.

This is especially problematic right now with the subscription deadline looming, the release of information about Dorico, and a knockout punch update needed pretty badly..

Thanks Bob

There's not going to be a "blockbuster" Sibelius release before the subscription deadline. And Daniel is making it no secret that Dorico 1.0 when it appears at the end of the year will be rather feature-light.

There's little point in reading either of these as a mammoth failure.

I agree, Laurence. Between the two of them - Sibelius and Dorico - there is very unlikely to be anything by the end of June that says, "THIS is the program you'll be spending the next twelve months with, to the exclusion of the other."

I'm thinking I'll be working with Sibelius for some time yet, irrespective of what updates appear; I still haven't decided whether there's any point in going beyond 7.1.3.

Pretty definitely I shall get on board with Dorico a.s.a.p., if only to get to grips with what I think will be the future of music engraving and to prepare for the change-over when that seems right - maybe towards the end of next year, if Dorico's so-far rapid development continues.

I'm guessing quite a few Sibelius users will be thinking along the same lines.

Well, most of us know which program we'll be spending the next 6 months with!
