Sib. 7.5: Double note values and keep all system objects?
Posted by benbogart - 24 May 02:39AM
In the genre I work in I have to double note values of entire scores a lot. Historically they were written in 4/8, now we work in 4/4.

How can I keep all the system objects when doubling the note values in a score? I loose all system text, rehearsal numbers, formatted barlines, form markings, etc each time I have to double a score.

Thanks for your help.

The plugin says on one of the radio buttons:
Copy all objects in bar (except System Objects) . . . the other button is for "notes only".

This plugin has saved me hours of work . . . nonetheless, I have to re-enter 1st/2nd Endings, Lines, Codas, DS's Rehearsal Marks, System Text.

And, I've never done this on a large score, so I feel your pain :-)

I'm sorry, but I don't see any way around this, perhaps someone else has some suggestions?

The plugin cannot do it. I can't remember why we decided not to copy such things. (I rewrote these plugins back in Sib 6). I suspect it was just too hard to get them right. There are lots of obscure issues and bugs involving system copy and paste, and I suspect it was thought too risky

The original design of the plugin was really to just double the notes and have you flow them back into the original score, inside the original bars, though certainly, since it created a new score, you could just work with the new score, with its double size bars.

However, I see no automated way to do this, and Double/Halve Note Values ship with Sibelius, and I can pretty much assure you nobody at Sibelius would have the time or inclination to mess with these plugins.

It would not be impossible to write a plugin that could copy system data from one score and paste it in another at suitable offsets, but I know of no such published plugin. Perhaps someone has written such a plugin and will offer it up. I do remember tinkering with pasting system data and finding lots of trouble with it, especially dealing with irregular bars, so I don't think it would be an easy one to write.

So as far as I know, copying each item by hand is the only way to do it.
