Suddenly today Sibelius doesn't recognize my Roland EA-25 audio device. in audio engine setup there is no driver of any kind found. yet the EA-25 is working in Windows. I have tried reinstalling the device driver and tried opening Sibelius without the EA-25 connected to see if Sibelius would find the Windows audio drivers. Nothing. I have a deadline and need help.
Thanks
Windows 8.1 Intel Core i7-4720HQ CPU @ 2.60 GHz 2.59GHz
64 bit 16 GB RAM
What is an "EA-25"? I can find no such product on the Roland site.
Sibelius will not recognise any device that becomes online after Sibelius has been launched. Try shutting down Windows, restarting Windows, ensure that your audio device is plugged in and powered up, and only then launch Sibelius.

Hm ... maybe another application is using the sound card.
What happens if you just turn if off and instead of the UA-25, try to use the sound card built into your computer? Latency will be high, but just as a test to see if anything happens.
Is your internal sound chip working in windows? ie NOT the UA-25?
Check in device manager that there are no 'unknown devices' listed.
Make sure your device drivers are absolutely up-to-date. Don't rely on windows to do this, go to the manufacturer's website.
If you have had Sib crashes, make sure there are no copies of sibelius left running in the background (check with task manager)
Make sure there are no other audio programs running in the background.
Can you take screen shots of audio engine options and playback devices dialogs, please and post them here.

That sounds as if Sibelius is launching in ReWire mode. Use the buttons at the bottom of the "Audio Engine Options" panel to clean up ReWire.
Alternatively, all your audio output devices have been black-listed by PlogueEngine. To fix this:
- ensure Sibelius is quit; restart Windows if not sure;
- click Start -> All Programs -> Avid -> Sibelius 7.5 -> Sibelius 7.5 User Data;
- from the folder that opens, delete the folder "PlogueEngine";
- now try launching Sibelius.
If any further help is needed, please attach a screen-shot of the "Audio Engine Options" dialogue window.

Thank you folks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, neither suggestion worked (rewire cleanup or folder deletion). I can send a screen shot if it helps, but all it will show is an empty field for audio interface.
The screen-shot shows that the ReWire Repair and Rewire Clean Up buttons are activated, rather than greyed out. So Sibelius has definitely started in ReWire mode. Keep pressing those buttons and restarting Sibelius until the buttons are greyed-out.
Make sure that when you launch Sibelius, there is no DAW or similar ReWire-enabled application running at the same time that would encourage Sibelius to start in ReWire mode.
Thanks Robin,
Not working. Also I have no DAW apps. and there is no indication in the transport window that ReWire is running. Thanks for the link. I'll read the article
The folder paths given in the article are the correct location for all versions of Windows from Vista onwards. The folder "AppData" is, by default, hidden from the Windows user interface, but it is there nevertheless. You can turn on the display of hidden files and folders in Control Panel "Folder Options", tab View.

That was it, Laurence! I can't believe I was so oblivious to the virtual instrument box. I saw virtual instrument as a third party synth or sampler, not as the audio interface.
Thanks to everyone who took time trying to help me. I'm a bit embarrassed.
I am almost grateful for your embarrassment. I have spent a long and frustrating time trying to get the audio to work again. If you had not discovered this and posted your message, I would still be searching.
