Selecting all notes of a chord without having to double click
Posted by bugbuster - 22 Apr 11:16PM (edited 22 Apr 11:35PM)
When I'm moving through a score by right arrow, sometimes I want to select all the notes of a chord so I can tie it to its twin to the right.
When I arrive at the first chord, only one note is selected. When I tie that highlighted note to its counterpart in the next chord, only that note gets tied and the other notes in the chord do not get tied. So I always I have to stop, pick up the mouse, double click on the first chord to highlight all the notes, and then tie chord to chord. I often have to do this dozens of times in a score. It really slows things down.

Is there any help for me?

Pressing Shift-RightArrow highlights all notes of the first and second chord, and so pressing Keypad Enter ties first and second, but then leaves ties dangling to the right from the second chord. No help there. What to do? What to do?

I need a way to arrow onto a chord and highlight all its notes at the same time or by some additional keystroke.

If there were a global option to highlight all notes (in the same voice of course--I am a reasonable guy--) of a chord simultaneously when selecting any note of that chord, I would use it! I wouldn't mind having to stop and use the mouse to unselect the chord and re-select for just one note. That rarely happens for me.

The keystroke already exists: "Select More" (Ctrl-Shift-A on Windows) selects all notes of a chord if one or more noteheads of the chord are already selected.

Have you read pages 147-149 in the manual?

Or if you want to select specific notes in a chord(s) use Ctrl+mouse click.

It's probably quicker to double klik than to Shift/Ctrl/a. Your hand does't have to leave the mouse. But then, I've always been a mouse guy, and not good at making guitar type shapes with my left hand.

Adrian – have a look at the first words in the original post: "When I'm moving through a score by right arrow" – bugbuster doesn't seem to be a mouse guy :-)

And the shortcut for Mac is Cmd-Shift-A by the way. It must be faster than grapping the mouse ...
