Hello, I selected a few bars and put a Ritardando (Rit.....) over them and that works fine. However, I notice that the Rit is still in effect in the bars following the selected bars (playback is still slow). I would not have expected the Rit to continue after the bars I selected?

How do I indicate that the following bars should resume normal tempo? I've put a tempo marking in the following bar but wonder if there is some other way to indicate to resume normal tempo?

It depends on what version of Sibelius you are using, which you do not say.

For version 7.5 or later, you can say "A Tempo".

For earlier versions, use a new Tempo statement or metronome mark.

Remember that a human player needs to be able to read this as well: a human cannot see which bars you selected for the Rit.

In current versions of Sibelius, write "a tempo" in Tempo Text. In older versions add an explicit mm marking (hidden, if you prefer).

This isn't a Sibelius quirk. There's no assumption that tempo jumps up again after a rit... in standard musical notation.

Note that rit... is a Line, not a one-time command. The extension dots should be drawn out over the extent of the gradually slowing passage - whether for Sielius or a live player to read. There are other directions to indicate a sudden decrease in speed. The precise effect can be defined by selecting the rit... and using settings in the Inspector.

Great thanks for your help. "A Tempo" is what I was looking for.

Another new feature is "Tempo primo" which will go back to the original tempo of the start of the movement or the beginning if it is a single movement piece.
