Hi,

I want to use the tabla and cajon as percussion instruments.
With the cajon I only get one sound, with the tabla I get 2 (and they don't sound tabla-like at all, they are sounds from a drum set).

See attached my sib file.

I've tried all staff positions, and all three noteheads (round,cross or square). However I don't manage to get more out of it.

Please could someone have a look at the file and point out what I'm doing wrong?
Also, if you can, update the file so I can see how it's supposed to be...

There are no tabla sounds in the Sibelius 7 Sounds sample library, so what you are trying to do is not possible.

If you want tabla sounds, you would need to purchase a sample library and player which offers those sounds.

Or you could use the General MIDI synthesised approximations to tabla sounds.

Thanks Robin for your reply. So in general it means that an instrument available to add in a score is there for notation reasons, and if one is "lucky" there are also sounds available related to that instrument?

Is there an easy way to see an overview of instruments available by default in the soundbank, instead of having to try out?

Sibelius, the notation application, has a built-in set of instrument definitions which far exceed the capability of any known sample library, so that it can be used easily with any sample library that the user acquires.

Just checked the pdf... See screenshot what I found for cajon. 9 sounds in total... Why can't I hear them in my sib? (see first item in this thread).

In the sample score, there are only two noteheads defined in the drum-map for the Cajon stave, and those two noteheads are assigned to the same cajon sound. If you want to hear all the possible cajon sounds, you need to define more distinct noteheads/positions and assign different cajon sounds to those new noteheads.

I know how to change noteheads and positions... (none of them got me any further) . But how can I "assign cajon sounds" to these new combinations? Could you give a brief step by step instruction or refer to an existing instruction?

Use the "Choose Sounds" button. See the Sibelius 7.1.3 Reference, pages 173-174 and the attached graphic.
