SOLVED - Sib. 6.x: Problem with Lines
Posted by musicbysterling - 31 Jan 07:48PM (edited 01 Feb 08:16AM)
Hello all,
Perhaps someone can assist me with a problem I'm having.
I created an ending that indicates it's to be repeated
twice - 1&2. In those two measures,I'm using two voices in those measures as well as chord symbols. The problem I'm having is that the line is so high that it sits on the lower
line of the stave above. When I try to lower it, the line drops to below the staves I'm working with. If I then attempt to move it up, it snaps back up to the high position again. Can anybody tell me how to move the line to just above the chord symbols.
Thank you!
Mark

You need to move the staves apart to leave room for all the symbols and lines you have, so that they sit naturally with each other and the staves under the influence of magnetic layout.

You might find it useful to "Select All" followed by Layout -> "Optimize Staff Spacing", which will automatically space the staves to leave room for all the items you have between staves.

If you want tighter spacing than Sibelius approves of, turn off Magnetic Layout for the line. Maybe also for the Chord Symbol. This can be done on a per-object basis by selecting it then using the R-click menu. Globally defeating Magnetic Layout in the Layout menu is overkill.

You may find this particular issue is resolved by simply dragging the first Chord Symbol under the repeat bracket a little to the right.

Thanks for telling me about Optimizing spacing trick. It put 4 measures onto a third page, but I massaged it a bit and got it all on 2 pages.

If you find it still gets tight, reducing the staff size slightly can also improve matters.

I've never done done that, nor did I know it was possible. Where can I find that tool?

In "Document Layout". Ctrl-d on Windows, Command-d on Mac OS.
