Hi all,

I've just seen this come up on Facebook so I thought it might be useful to clarify:

Sibelius will regularly crash on Mac OS 10.11.0 and 10.11.1 (El Capitan). The simple fix is to update to 10.11.2 or later, where Apple have fixed the underlying issue that causes Sibelius to go down.

If you're finding that Sibelius regularly crashes, and you're on El Capitan, I recommend checking this first.

I'm confused.

Last time we discussed, (with crash logs been sent to developers...) you said dev team will remove "OS factor" from potential cause of crash because crash also found on Yosemite.

Now, you are saying that El Capitan update will fix the problem.....


Anyway, I think I can reproduce the crash.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Prepare OS X 10.11.2 El Capitan (the latest update)
2. Install Sibelius 8, and update to the latest version, also.
3. Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources.
4. Click + button to add a second language IM.
5. Choose 2-byte language i.e. Korean (2-Set Korean).
6. Launch Sibelius, and create a score.
7. Save the document and, switch your IM to 2-Set Korean.
8. Press Command+W to close the score. (Try repeat steps #5~8 if crash is not reproduced..)

RESULTS:
Sibelius crashes when being closed with Korean IM is enabled.
Sibelius does not crash when being closed by clicking red(close) button even if Korean IM is enabled. Only crashed when pressing keyboard Command+W with Korean IM is enabled.


NOTES:
With Korean IM is enabled, pressing Command-W will actually send "Command-ㅈ" (ㅈ is a Korean character, 2-byte).

I'm suspecting this may cause the crash issue because Apple renewed Korean IM since El Capitan..

(Before El Capitan, typing Korean character will not automatically completed unless user hit "space bar" and the last character will remain with highlighted by underbar. From El Capitan, Korean character will automatically completed without any underbar generated.)

Reproduced! This is good news, as it means there is something for one of our developers to get their teeth into.

I do have some reservations however; I suspect the crash may be in Qt, our cross platform framework. If that turns out to be the case, it will be very difficult to fix.

More news as I have it.

OK, so the bad news is that, as I suspected, this does appear to be related to Qt. The crash is reproducible on Qt4, but not reproducible on our (internal) Qt5 builds of Sibelius.

Are you happy to work around the issue for now by avoiding Command + W? We'll work on providing a fix in the meantime.

Let me know if anything else comes up.

Update: Oh, it's a framework. Okay, meantime I can live with avoiding Command-ㅈ(W). However, if you want me to do a test flight using internal qt5, just let me know.

So the crash is caused by pressing Command-ㅈ(W)? If it's the case, American and europian users wouldn't have suffered since they don't need a second IM.

It seems so, on both counts. I believe this will affect other 2-byte character languages too.
