Sib. 7.5: Sibelius and Kontakt Player
Posted by Joshua Hinkel - 27 Nov 05:16PM
Hi all,

I've loaded my sample library into the Kontakt Player within Sibelius and all is well but when I quit Sibelius and re-launch the same project, my sample library is gone from the Kontakt Player completely.

Any ideas? Is it because I'm using the free Kontakt player instead of the full Kontakt 5 version? It is causing me to reload the sample library each time.

Thanks for the help!

The most likely cause of this problem is that you are failing to save the "Playback Configuration" within Sibelius before quitting.

It is the "Playback Configuration", not the .sib score file, in which such settings are saved.

Robin,

I have attached a photo of some screenshots for reference. My playback configuration is correct from what I can tell as I have this same set up on my other iMac. I have to load the sample library manually each time I open the sib file.

Now, I got the strangest error message saying my library wasn't installed? That's not correct as it is definitely installed as shown in the screenshot. Thanks in advance for the help. Going crazy here!!

Josh

Files uploaded have to be sib, png or jpg with the filename in lower case. They also have to be less than 900K.

The issue is not whether the Playback Configuration looks correct or not: the issue is whether you SAVED the Playback Configuration AFTER loading the sample library into Kontakt. The act of saving a Sibelius Playback Configuration also saves the configuration data of all included playback devices, such as Kontakt. You cannot view this information, but it is saved for you behind the scenes.

> I have to load the sample library manually each time I open the sib file.

... possibly because the sample library information had not previously been saved in the Playback Configuration.

There was no screen-shot attached.

Another question: what is the identity of the sample library being used?

Does a Sibelius SoundSet file exist for this sample library? If so, you should purchase that SoundSet file and use it, as it would eliminate having to pre-load samples into Kontakt and save those configurations. A Sibelius SoundSet would automate everything.

Robin, thanks so much again for the help.

1. I am using the Virtual Ensemble Trilogy by Sample Logic.

2. Yes, a sound set file is being used. Under playback devices, I click "New" call it VET the activate the Kontakt player then choose the VET sound set from the drop down. Click Save.

3. Once I save it, I load the VET library into the Kontakt player, go back to the play back configuration and click SAVE again. Boom, it CRASHES. Then every time I try reopen the file, it crashes once the Kontakt player begins to load in the background, while the splash screen is still up. Although the splash screen fully loads before the actual crash.

4. I have this exact set up on my other Mac and have NO issues. The only difference I can see is THAT computer is running Yosemite. My new MacBook Pro came with El Capitan pre-installed. Literally out of the box a few days ago.

Could this be an El Capitan caused problem? I don't want to pawn it off as that but I know there are issues with El Capitan and I'm not sure what else to do.

Robin, can you do a remote access of my machine? I thought the Sibelius Techs can do that.

Have you got the latest updates for both Kontakt and El Capitan?

The crashes might be because of the bugs in El Capitan. I don't think you will be able to make much progress on that until El Capitan is fixed (in 10.11.2, perhaps). At present Sibelius is officially unsupported on El Capitan, for all Sibelius versions.

If it transpires that Sibelius needs some fixes to make it fully compatible with El Capitan, those fixes are likely to be made only to the Sibelius 8.x line, and not to earlier versions.

Interesting Update....any feedback appreciated so I can understand what's going on.

I went into the Library>Application Support>Avid>Sibelius 7.5 Folder, then deleted the playback configurations files. This allowed me to reopen the previously crashing file in question. I then:

1. I realized under playback devices, I was activating the VST version of Kontakt instead of the AU version. The VST version causes Sibelius to crash immediately. Not sure why. That was my problem from before.....fixed.

2. Now that I am using the AU version, I can use the VET soundset and load in my VET library and it plays back GREAT!! I made sure to hit SAVE again after loading the library into the Kontakt player. (did that save it Robin?)

3. Now for the minor issue. Once I quit Sibelius and restart it gives me the following error message:

"Loading Instruments has failed, as the Library

Virtual Ensemble Trilogy

is not installed on this computer"

4. I then can go into the mixer, click the gear and manually load it and it works perfectly again.

Any thoughts?

Got the error message to go away by saving the configuration as a FXP file in the Kontakt player.....

Sibelius, however, still does not remember the sample library on start up. Am I not saving the playback configuration correctly? Can someone take me through that process? I am clicking SAVE in playback devices even though there is no * symbol......

so close here!!
