Sib. 7.5: Creating a Single measure
Posted by gosccs - 20 Nov 08:38PM
Hello,
Can anyone please explain how I can create a single measure, be able to re position it, and include some instructional text with it? (see included sample) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

LIke this (attached)

Position the front of the bar by putting a New Line before it and giving it a Gap Before Bar in the Inspector. Position its end by dragging the handle just past the stave's end back to the left. View: Handles helps. If you want it higher or lower on the page, drag it up or down.

And there's not even any need of the inspector; there's a handle at the left of the bar too ...

Another solution:

Create > Other > Ossia Staff, choose Ossia Below.

I think not, James. You cannot shift an ossia horizontally independently of the staff to which it is attached.

Well, you can choose the place where it changes in and out of "No Instrument(hidden). But then you'd have to go to the trouble of making it full-size.

People find ossias attractive. But, like Extracted Parts, they are rarely the answer. Maybe they're advertised too prominent ently on the Ribbon.

I have just had to help someone out who was totally confused about ossias and small staves. Because of the way Sib creates a full staff for the ossia, people think that ossia is just a pig latin name for a small staff.

If you want a small staff, it is much better just to add a small staff to a score.

If you want to clarify how a particular passage is played for a short stretch of music then use an ossia above or below the bar(s) concerned.

In the case of the OP, this is much more like a incipit. if you have several of these throughout the score, then use the ordinary staff but isolate the bar with line breaks at each end and drag the ends of the bar left and right as Laurence suggested.

You can still add bars afterwards.

The attached might be of some help.

Forget about ossias. The attachment shows that the OP wants a system containing a single measure indented before and after. The second post (Laurence's) in this thread has the answer.
