Sib. 7.1: Upgrade?
Posted by Richard Ratner - 29 Aug 05:13PM
I am a classical composer using 7.1. I've just read the upgrade options. I think $89/year sounds pretty reasonable, BUT it definitely appears to me that Sib is moving in a direction that is not for folks like me. I do not care about stuff on a tablet - I work on a desktop. I don't care about any input except computer keyboard. The things I would like: standard treatment of accidentals, fix a few other quirks that have been with Sib since the beginning, better sounds (some of the sounds in 7, e.g. solo violin, are stupid bad. Staccato is not treated appropriately, etc.) Is it worth it for me to upgrade, or should I consider 7.1 the end of the line for me?

The last "classic" Sibelius version, planned at Finsbury Park (if not completely coded there) seems to be 7.5.1. If you buy Sibelius 8 today, that's basically what you'll be getting. We're told that 8.01 is imminent, with a few bug fixes. After a year, you can decide whether to stick or keep subscribing.
So your real question is whether the features in 7.5 over 7 are of interest to you.
