I already have Sibelius First.
Can I download a free trial of 7 and if so will it have any effect on the scores I already have?

If you update and save any score files in Sibelius 7.5 or Sibelius (8), you will not be able to open them again in Sibelius First. You must remember to export the scores back to Sibelius First format, rather than simply saving them.
