Sib. 7.1.3: Unable to hear playback
Posted by Shortmeister - 27 Jul 08:52AM
Hi there.

I've just reinstalled Windows and Sibelius 7 plus upgrades and cannot get any sound. I notice that the mixer is registering sound, so Sibelius knows that something is being played back.

I have tried:

1. The instructions at http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Troubleshooting/en360443

1.1 Check system is playing general sound.
**YES.

1.2 Check adjust system volume in control panel for Sibelius.
**IS SET CORRECTLY AND NOT MUTED.

WENT THROUGH SUGGESTIONS ON THE VIDEO:
1.3 Play > Setup > Playback Devices. Set the Configuration to Sibelius 7 Sounds. Select the Sibelius Player entry in the right-hand column, then click Test.
** DID THIS NO SOUND.

1.4 Click Audio Engine Options and check that your preferred interface is selected (choose ASIO or CoreAudio if available, if not choose Primary Sound Driver).
**Tried every item in list. No joy.

1.5 Repair and Clean Up buttons are unavailable.

I'm now at a loss to know how to proceed, so any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks

The mixer does not register sound - it shows midi activity - so movement there does not confirm that the sound library is installed correctly.

What was the source of the Sib 7 sound library (it's a separate installation from the program) - disk or download?
If you downloaded it you will know - it takes many hours to download.

If you installed from disks make sure you installed all the contents of Disk 1 - that's often overlooked.

Have you actually installed Sibelius 7 Sounds? They are a separate installation to the Sibelius application itself.

Please attach screen-shots of the Sibelius dialogue windows:
1. Playback Devices;
2. Audio Engine Options.

In Windows Explorer, navigate:
- if 64-bit Windows, to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Sibelius Sounds\
- if 32-bit Windows, to:
C:\Program Files\Avid\Sibelius Sounds\

Then right-click the sub-folder "Sibelius 7 Sounds", and select "Properties". Take a screen-shot of the Properties panel and attach it here.

Use the Windows "Snipping Tool" to take screen-shots of just the windows concerned, not the whole screen.

Attachments on this forum must be less than 900 kBytes, and of type .png, .jpg, or .sib, with the extension spelt in lower-case. Some .jpg sub-types are not accepted. The preferred format for screen-shots is .png.

Hi

Thanks for your advice. I had installed Sounds and had the playback devices/audio engine set correctly and it still didn't work.

In the end, I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the product. That fixed the problem.
