Sib 8--Crash upon exit
Posted by Jim Williams - 02 Jul 03:27AM
No, Crash Upon Exit is not a small town near Skegness.

Crash Upon Exit is a problem I'm having with the Eights...
Sibelius 8 and Windows 8.1.

Anyone else experiencing that? Any advice? Doesn't seem to break anything, but makes me nervous nevertheless.

BTW...I am enjoying Noteperformer...and other VSTs thanks to help I received here!

Please provide details of this "crash". What is the precise text of any error message?

Also, please use control panel Action Center -> Maintenance -> View Reliability History then right-click on the Sibelius crash event and choose "View Technical Details", and copy that information into a follow-up post in this thread.

Also, please give the name of the sound card in use, and use Device Manager to determine the version number of the Windows driver being used for that card.

Faulting package-relative application ID:

The crash is seemingly random; I can't reproduce it at will with an identifiable set of steps/actions.

Robin, that's all there is. I'm assuming QT is Quicktime, which I thought I had purged from my system, since it also caused "another notation product" to take an unscheduled trip to Crash-Upon-Exit.

Audio interface is Behringer UCA202; windows reports that the Behringer driver is up-to-date--BUSB2902.sys v.2.8.40.

Error message was a generic Windows message that "Sibelius has encountered an error and needs to close..."

In neither program does this error corrupt a file--or hasn't done so yet...just makes me nervous.

I'm going to investigate the .dll in question and see what happens if I remove it.

As always...thanks.

UPDATE: the .dll is NOT quicktime--it has something to do with installers.

Please attach a screen-shot of the "Audio Engine Options" dialogue of Sibelius.

Also, I am a bit concerned about BUSB2902.sys. This appears to be about 6 years old(?), and probably never intended for use with Windows 8.1. The manufacturer's site says that no drivers are needed for this device (and so there are no updates for it). The site now offers a link to ASIO4ALL instead.

It seems that switching from MME to Direct Sound has solved the problem here.
It invoked an entirely new and better set of drivers.
Thanks, Robin.

I also got rid of the USB audio interface and am now using ASIO4ALL with the built-in Realtek Audio.
