Sib. 7.5: Sibelius 8.0 What happens
Posted by Albert - 27 Jun 03:42PM
Hi,
just received Sib. 8.0. As a Mac User I feel totally.... well no words. Nothing new. I paid nearly € 100,00 for nothing.
How can you call this Version 8. It's less than Version 7.5000001
But not only this, they stepped back.

• no rubber band selection of objects anymore. For example chords, text etc. placed above a stuff. You select the whole thing or nothing.
• grace notes: well 10x times to insert grace notes it works. than all of sudden you see a blue note insert line but you can't insert anything.

I am a user since Sib. 1.0. Perhaps I will change my software. Just downloaded Finale and time by time I will learn it. And Yamaha is expected to launch a thing…

Bad company with bad habits.

Add: What happens to Sibelius Quicklook? In the finder you can't see inside a file anymore?

This is a Mac OS problem if there are multiple versions of the same application installed, each with its own QuickLook generator.

Well, if it wasn't clear before - the newest Sibelius offers NOTHING for Mac users (and next to nothing for Windows users). Caveat Emptor.

It was a shock to see the specs for this release. I think the treatment of Mac users unacceptable. How can this version be considered a true upgrade for them, in any sense? Would it not at least have been more honest to release this as a Windows only upgrade (even then it would be laughable)? How close to the wind is Avid sailing here?

Hi Albert,

Marquee selection and grace notes should work well on Mac.

Please contact the support team if you need help getting these resolved.

Hi Sam,
grace notes work well. 95%. All of sudden: nada.
Rubberband/Marquee selection doesn't work. Never. Tried everything

I don't notice any improvements between 7.5 and 8.0 (certainly not anything worth $98 and change), and the problem i had in 7.5 didn't go away, either: Sibelius won't playback from any selection, the playback line always jumps to the beginning of the piece.
I am extremely disappointed. And the phone Help Center is a sick Kafka-esque joke; nothing but a circular hallway of mirrors.

That's a problem with the score, not with Sibelius. I guess that the score has a broken repeat structure.
