Sib. 7.1.3: Uncooperative fermata
Posted by Adrian Drover - 25 Jun 09:11AM
If you write a pause on the last beat of the last measure of the score, it has no effect. And if you edit the live duration of the paused note, it still has no effect. Seems the only solution is to write an invisible tempo change.

Do you have the 'fermata' option ticked in the inspector? You have to have the fermata from the 4th keypad layout and set the durations and, if you want one, the gap - does that facility exist in 7.1.3?

Incorrect info deleted - corrected in later post

, (comma) as breath mark (shorten previous note)
// (caesura)
While we're there 'A Tempo' works in 7.5

My post refers to 7.5 where what Adrian is trying to do is easily achievable.

No, Mike is right. I didn't have the fermata checked. It does work in 7.1.3. Just that I've always relied on default length pauses. Thanx, Guys. I've just learned something new.

Huh? The ability to change set the duration of the fermata (and the ability to set the value of a following gap) using the inspector existed in 7.1. It even existed in Sib 6 equivalent of the inspector. (I don't remember what it was called.)

Support for the breath mark and caesura is new.

Based on the subject of this thread, I assume the "pause" you refer to is a fermata. If that is not the case, ignore everything in my posting.

I tried this and had no trouble. Both the default 150% duration fermata (i.e., not using the inspector) and setting a duration with the inspector worked for me. Just in case you were referring to a trailing gap, I added one with the inspector and that worked, too.

Now, I tried the fermata on a whole note and on the last quarter note in a 4/4 bar. I didn't try any other note durations so this wasn't a very complete test.

Maybe you should attach a score showing the problem just in case I was testing the wrong thing.

There's a bit of a fuzzy bit in the implementation, I seem to recall, where you have to select the note, rather than the fermata itself, but the fermata has to be present for it to work. Do you know any different Laurence?

Glad you got it sorted, Adrian.

Yep, Patrick. "Pause", "Hold", "Bird's Eye" all mean "Fermata" to me. I was never much good at Italian.
