I just downloaded Sibelius 8.0 (upgrading from Sibelius 5). I have downloaded the Sibelius 7 sounds that were included from the link I was given (and re-downloaded them just to make sure after I could not access them).

When I go to 'set up' under'configuration' under the 'play' tab and select Sibelius 7 sounds (or Sibelius 7 chamber, jazz, lite etc.) my devices are greyed out. (Sibelius 5 sounds work fine). If I try to play my score with Sib. 7 sounds selected as the configuration the program crashes every time. I know I have enough memory on my computer and I just followed the prompts when downloading everything- I didn't do anything funny.

I don't know if this is relevant but I had version of sib. 7 on my computer that I downloaded for free a long time ago and did not activate. Sib. 7 sounds worked there. I uninstalled that program, but the sib. 7 sounds in version 8.0 still do not work.

Should I try reinstalling the whole program from the link I was given when I bought it?

Is this on Mac OS, or on Windows?

The size of the installer for Sibelius 7.5 Sounds should be around 23GB. Was the one that you downloaded that size?

Having downloaded the installer, have you actually launched the installer to perform the sounds installation?

Sorry, I am running Windows 7.

The file I download is labeled as 23gb on by 'downloads' page in my Avid account online. When I look at 'properties' on the files I downloaded however, I can't find anything that is 23 gb- lots of other files along with the installer which I was prompted to extract before running the installer, which I did.

I did launch the installer- it took a long time to finish- lots of files. The sib. 7 sounds update was quick...

No, I only downloaded the Sib. 7 sounds and the sounds updater that were included in my products list when I downloaded Sib. 8.0

If you downloaded and installed the full 7.5 Sounds installer, then the Sounds Updater is irrelevant and need not be downloaded. If you only installed the Sounds Updater, and not the full 7.5 Sounds Installer, then that would explain your problem.

Please use Windows Explorer to navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Sibelius Sounds\
and then right-click on the folder "Sibelius 7 Sounds", select Properties, and tell us the size of the folder in Bytes.

Please give the size of the "Sibelius 7 Sounds" folder.

Please also attach screen shots of the Sibelius dialogs:
- Playback Devices;
- Audio Engine Options.

Here is the size of the Sibelius 7 Sounds folder: 34.3 GB (36,848,526,320 bytes)

Wait! I've got it- I had not restarted Sibelius after checking the 'use virtual instruments box' - that did the trick. So sorry, now that I see it I don't know how I missed it.
