I have Sib 7 (Windows 7)on my new laptop and Sib6 on my desktop (WinXP). Sib6 is running slower and slower. It has slowed to the point where I cannot open a file in less than 45 min-1 hour. Other large programs open normally. Task Manager shows cpu usage going up to 100% when I start Sib6.

What could be causing this? Any suggestions on what to do?

Configure the anti-virus/anti-malware utility to exclude the "Sibelius.exe" process for Sibelius 6 from real-time scanning.

Also, try this:
1. Download the autoruns program from Microsoft Sysinternals;
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902
2. Unzip the .zip file into a folder. Inside, you will find "autoruns.exe";
3. Right-click on autoruns.exe, and choose "Run as Administrator".
4. Once Autoruns opens, look in the AppInit tab for any entries, note them down and report back here, or attach a screen-shot of them.

Robin, Running Autoruns showed no AppInnits on my XP computer. What is an AppInit, and how would it affect Sibelius? Any other ideas?

The AppInit tab lists DLLs that are automatically injected into every running process when they start up. Versions of Sibelius earlier than 7.0 were highly sensitive to this form of intrusion, and misbehaved.

How much RAM is on the XP PC? What other processes are running that might be consuming RAM?

Have you tried disabling anti-malware?
