Sib. 7.1.3: Ending a score in the middle of a staff without measures stretching out to full width of the staff
Posted by keyplayer - 19 May 12:22AM
If I have staves with 4-bars each in a score -- measures that divide the staves equally between the far left & the far right sides into 4 measures, and if I want to end a score in the middle of a staff, at the end of two normal-sized measures, with a final, ending barline in the middle of the staff, eliminating the balance of the staff space that runs on to the far right side, how can I do this? Whenever I try to achieve this result, I can delete the measures after the ending barline in the middle, but when I do this the two bars before the end (on their own, last staff) STRETCH out the full width of the normal staff size and won't retain the same size as all of the other measures in my score. I'm mostly doing short examples of different things to paste into a book, & would like to keep ALL the measures a uniform size, but always get this stretching of the last two bars to full-staff width, which makes each one of the last two bars the size of half of the staff width. I want the last two bars to remain small -- taking up only half of the available width of the staff, instead of stretching out to fill up all of the staff. Does anyone out there understand what I'm saying & have a fix? I can't find anything that works.

You'll kick yourself... :-)

Grab the end of the last stave and drag it to the left. There's a "handle" point just past the end of the stave. If you can't find it, switch on View: Handles.

And I did Laurence!
A device I've not had to use so far, but I guess I would have overlooked the simple solution.
But maybe then I would have RTFM!

I can't pretend I'd have had the slightest idea how to search the manual for that particular trick!
