Sib. 7.5: Problem with XML file [SOLVED]
Posted by anp27 - 15 May 12:50AM (edited 15 May 09:27AM)
I'm working with an XML file imported into Sibelius 7.5 and I've encountered a problem. This XML file has a single staff and I want to assign it's instrument to a Rock Drum Set but the option in greyed out. How do I simply re-assign the instrument?

I would probably use add instrument (I) to add a drum staff, triple click the original staff [ctrl]c, select the first bar of the new drum staff, [ctrl]v and then delete the original staff. Saves a lot of messing about!

What exactly is greyed out, exactly where?

A screen-shot might help.

I thought of that workaround but wanted to see if I didn't have to resort to it.

Yeah... it's not even an option. My mistake. Thanks anyway.

The cleanest solution would have been to notice these two options when importing the MusicXML file (see attachment) and unticking them. Then you get to assign the right instruments from the outset.

Once you've started working on the score in Sibelius, you've got a choice between clicking an Instrument Change to "Drum Kit (rock)" in front of the first stave or creating a new instrument stave and copy/pasting the contents across. I'd recommend the latter.

Whichever way you did it, did the notes end up on the right lines to play the right sounds?
