Sorry that most of my posts to this forum are about playback, which I realize is a subsidiary function of Sibelius.

Is there a way to make this grace note play back as a grace note (i.e. right before -- repeat -- RIGHT before -- the next note) and not simply as a sixteenth note (adjusting the grace note's note-value to less than an eighth note seems to have no effect; fiddling around with start position and duration in Inspector didn't seem to work either)? Thanks for any help.

Have you looked at:

Play>Performance>Grace Notes

I have used and I got some very strange results - so no promises!

I don't know if this is true in 7.1, but there are options in the inspector to play grace notes in different ways in 7.5.

I haven't used them is a while, but it used to be that the closer to the main note, the more quickly they played; vice versa, dragging them to the left made for a slower playback. Perhaps that has changed?

Yes, it's true & fixed my gracenote -- ridiculous! I gather 7.5 provides something less backwoods.

PS: When I upgrade to 7.5 I really wouldn't have minded if they offered an accompanying discount on purchasing the 7.5 Reference Guide (grumble, grumble).

The reference guide is provided as a pdf if you want to print it out - be cheaper than buying it - maybe? ;-)
