Am getting ready to insert cue notes into parts. Seems to be a number of ways to do it. If anyone could direct me to any explanations of their favorite way to do it, I'd appreciate it. Am not sure how to keep the cue notes out of the full score.

Do the work in the Full Score, not the Part. Use "Paste as Cue", which does all the hard work for you.
