Sib. 7.5: Movements
Posted by lj - 29 Mar 01:15PM
I am collaborating on a composition with two other musicians. We are each writing a Movement based off of a group of notes. Does any one know how to do multiple movements?

Presumably everyone will be working on his own individual Sibelius score? If everyone uses exactly the same instrumentation - the same number of staves, allocated the same instruments in the same order - the sib files can be concatenated using the Append Score function in the File menu. Otherwise I suggest you keep the scores separate, Export each to PDF and bind the pages together.

If you choose to Append the scores, theres a plugin that helps tidy this process up:

Home Tab>Plugins>Plugins>Other>Tidy Appended Scores

http://www.sibelius.com/download/plugins/index.html?plugin=302

Thanks Bob

I do note--rather surprisingly so--that in Daniels blog linked to above, he says:

"Appending one score to another in Sibelius is very simple: first, make sure that the score you’re appending has the same number of staves (and preferably, but not necessarily, the same instrumentation) as the score to which you are appending it; then second, choose File > Append Score to append the two scores together."

Thanks Bob

The "preferably" becomes "necessarily" if you intend to distribute printed parts to each player, derived from the Sibelius Dynamic Parts feature. If the instrumentation is not the same in every movement, then some or all of the orchestra might have to swap their printed parts around at every movement break.

Everyone is writing it on Sibelius, but I combining/formatting it into one sib file so formatting is the same for each movement

Yes, but is the instrumentation the same in each movement? The scores all need to be laid out with the exact same instruemnts int eh exact same order, otherwise you will have issues with the appending and with the parts.
