Hello all!

I apologize if this has been answered before, but I was not able to find the answer by searching the forum :(

I am having an issue inputting chords using the command+k feature when the chord is in parenthesis. I would like to notate some chords as optional, or to notate that they are only played during the repeat. However, when I type in a chord with parenthesis, the chord turns red. And if I type in a slash chord with parenthesis, i.e. (C/E), the whole text turns into a large slash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

As you have observed, Chord Symbol objects (as created by default with ctrl/cmnd-K) cannot be put in parentheses.

You will have to use Legacy Chord Symbols (text objects with the special Chord Symbol text style) to parenthesize them.

See Legacy chord symbol input in the Reference for more details.

I don't know if there is a request in IdeaScale to allow Chord Symbol objects in parentheses, but it seems a reasonable thing to request.

The downloadable plugin Bracket Chord Symbols (category Chord Symbols) will put brackets around existing chord symbols, converting them to legacy symbols as needed.
