Sib. 7.5: Switching notes from left hand to right in piano staves
Posted by Garehead - 28 Mar 12:57AM
I've recored both hands simultaneously onto a piano stave with my midi keyboard. How do you take the top note of a chord in the left hand (bass clef) and move it to the right hand part (treble clef) without having to delete and manually insert the note?

Thanks,

G

Pls see this older thread:

http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?com=thread&start=502476&groupid=3&&guest=1

For Sib 7.5:

Note Input Tab>Cross Staff Notes>Above, Below

Note Input Tab>Plugins>Plugins>Simplify Notation>Change Split Point

Thanks Bob

PS Theres also a way to have Sib automatically do the r/l hand separation for you--this provides a floating split point, which changes as the range of the music changes,as opposed to a fixed split point, which stays constant.

This is especially useful with improvised piano midi scores-and scores recorded as you did yours, when entering the notes is complete.

You have to export your score as Midi, and reimport it back into Sib.

In the Open Midi file Dialog, Notation Tab>Keyboard Staves> Choose Automatic.

Please see attachment

Thanks Bob

I suspect you want the upper notes to actually BE in the upper stave, not cross-staved from the lower. There's also the question of just what you mean by a "chord".

Very often an automatic solution can be more trouble than it's worth in this sort of case. It might be easier to start over on a new pair of staves, useing the captured notation as a guide.

If you attach a sib file illustrating what notation you have, and describe what you want it to look like, we can give better advice.

Thanks both Bob and Laurence for the replies. I've attached a png file. On the fourth beat, I simply want to move the D natural in the left hand, to the right hand, below the F.
Bob, using the "Cross Staff Notes" method simply places the note above or below at the desired interval, which is fine, but wondered if there was a shortcut to use after selecting a note in one staff, to simply move it to the upper/lower staff?....instead of deleting the note on the lower staff, and creating another one on the upper staff. I'll try experimenting with the automatic split point method.
Laurence.... correct, BE in the upper staff. Not sure what you mean by captured notation as a guide? Anyway, what I'm trying to do is pretty simple, just want to know the quickest way to do it. :)

Youre welcome:)

For what you want to do, after seeing your attachment Id simply select the D natural in the left hand, and then Note Input tab>Plugins>Simplify Notation> Move to other Staff.

id imagine you could also assign a shortcut to the plugin.

Thanks Bob
