Sib. 7.0: Sib 7: How to create to slash / rhythmic notation in guitar TAB
Posted by Jerry Lau - 22 Mar 05:10AM
Does anyone know how to have create to slash / rhythmic notation without having to notate every single note in the tab?

I know how to do it in standard notation but the "Alt+Shift+4" Beat with steam doesn't work in Tab neither nor the "Alt+Shift+27" Large steamless slash.

Please help!!!

Thanks in advance
Jerry

The only way I know how to do this is to double-klik on the tab chord, hide it, then get a slash from zymbols. You may want to enlarge the slash. This can only be done in Edit Symbols (New) and Edit Text Styles (New), a lengthy task.

Thanks Adrian and have tired but it is way to much hassle to do this for a chat with 3 - 4 guitars in tab.

I hope there are other ways or just an update to allow notehead being applied to TAB as well

You could create a "No instrument (hidden)" staff below your tab staff – fill it with slash notes and drag the staff on top of the tab staff ...

Or create a 6-line notation staff with a TAB clef, and use that instead of a TAB staff when you need the slashes. Use Instrument Changes to swap back when you need TAB numbers.

Thanks Bob, Could you please tell me how to create a 6 line notation staff. I could only see 4 line with no clef under the change/add instruments. Also when I tired the the 4 line staff to test it. I couldn't get rid of the instrument name above the staff when I change it back to TAB Staff. Also how do I add the instrument name at the front of the staff which will carry on to all the pages like the normal one?

Thank Erik. This is good solution although I have to end up moving all the slashes up to the middle if there is no stem required.

A 6 line notation staff is just like a guitar notation staff with another line added.

I would create a new one based on the normal guitar notation staff, in Edit Instrument, and go to Edit Staff and add another line, and then change the clef.

I attach a score that has such an instrument defined. You can edit it in Edit Instrument to see what what done. Or export an House style and import it to your score.

The lowest instrument is such a staff. I start with slashes and then do instrument changed back and forth between the tab and pseudo tab staff. The text can easily be deleted - I left it in to make what was happening more obvious.

Thanks Bob. I have tired it and it is very good except only minor problem I have is I always have the standard notation above the tab and I usually just copy the whole thing into the TAB staff when I finish scoring it with the whole band arrangement.

With this custom staff, the copying function doesn't convent the notation into tab even though the instrument has been changed neither nor it works the other way around if I finish with Tab and copy them back to the notation staff. It will just change all staff into tab in my normal notation staff.

If there is always around it, then I will be in heaven. Otherwise I will end up writing the same guitar part twice every time for every part.

Ideally I would love to have both notation and Tab for different students which is why I always have both notation and Tab for every parts including bass.
