Sib. 7.1.3: midi import problem
Posted by bpJazzGuy - 21 Feb 08:17PM
I am importing a midi file, but the piano part has both bass and treble notes. However, the midi import puts all of the piano notes on one stave, so the bass notes are impossible to read. Is there a way to get the score to put the notes below the treble stave (say below some tone) on a bass clef?

I've been looking for a feature that will add a stave to a track and put the appropriate notes on it. Copying and pasting to a piano stave still puts all the notes on a single clef.

Please see the following, from Daniel Spreadbury:

http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?com=thread&start=509690&groupid=3&&guest=1#509739

"Make sure that the track in the MIDI file has a program change to 0 or 1 at the start of the track, then when you import it, make sure "MIDI file uses this sound set" is switched on, and set to "General MIDI". That should take care of it!

You can either edit the MIDI file before it comes into Sibelius, or you can use plug-ins like Explode to explode the music onto two staves. Your choice!"

And from Bob Zawalich:

http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?com=thread&start=533339&groupid=3&&guest=_11#534271

"Assuming you have not checked "one staff only" on the MIDI import dialog (see screenshot), then the sequencer must be treating the music as a single staff.

The simplest thing to do at this point (if you can;t figure out how to get the MIDI sequencer to producer 2 staves) is to create a new piano instrument in the score for each piano you have, copy all the music from the staff with the music to one of the staves of the piano, then run with Plugins > Simplify Notation > Change Split Point
or Plugins > Simplify Notation > explode, either of which will move some of the music onto the empty staff."

Thanks Bob

Thanks. That worked! Pretty easy if you know what to do. Pretty impossible if newly. Anyway, this helps a lot.
