Sib. 7.1.3: Problem with multi-rests when extracting parts
Posted by bass71 - 21 Feb 04:43PM
Ok so this is a music notation nightmare:

My studio orchestra chart has mistakes in multi-rests when I extract parts. There's a section where the first ending is three measures and all but 4 instruments play in that spot. Unfortunately, those four instruments have four measures of rest inserted instead of three. I think the reason this is is because they all have rest in the previous measure. Technically it extracted parts correctly in that they do have four measures of rest, but it screws up the second ending and the total number of bars in the section. I'm glad I caught this but I can't seem to fix the problem. The only thing I can do is to manually insert text stating the exact number of bars. As you know, this looks totally unprofessional.

Has anyone had this problem, is there a way around it?

Thank you in advance.

Pls attach a sib score that demonstrates the problem, so someone can help you.

File size limit is 900k.

Thanks Bob

I don't know why you are 'extracting parts' as there is no need to do so in Sib 7.

It is not clear from your description whether the incorrect notation is in the 1st time or 2nd time bar. However, it does sound as if, perhaps, you have been careless in placing the 1st time bar line. Perhaps it overlaps the end of the bar?

None of this should affect in any way the actual number of bars - or even the bar numbering in the piece. If you have caught an extra bar under the line, then that will obviously cause a problem, but it won't actually change anything else.
