I am trying to edit parts in a large work - and multirests are not working properly. Use multirests is set in both layout and in engraving rules. They have worked properly in other scores. When editing - there is an icon over every single bar line - that makes it look like something is locked - but "unlock format" makes no difference. When I click on the icon over the empty barlines and hit "delete" then the multirests start to happen (as I hit delete the first time 2 bars become a "2" multirest - and then as I continue they all are included. But this is an awkward workaround. Anyone know what might be going on? Thanks for any help.

Here's the score - it was actually created from another score - and now has some issues because I've been trying to figure out how to fix it. The multi-rests on the full score are totally messed up. I am actually unsure why there are two separate "soprano" parts. One is messed up. The other has the multi-rests more or less correct - because of my work-around. Same for the alto, tenor and bass. Hoping this is not too confusing. Any advise - much appreciated.

There are many problems with the Engraving Rules and Note Spacing Rules of this score. Perhaps the most serious is that, in Note Spacing Rules, the width of an empty bar is set to zero.

There are so many strange settings that I think the best way to proceed is to import one of the Sibelius default House Styles, and then Select All; Reset Design; Reset Position; Reset Note Spacing to establish some sort of order. After that, you can build any required customisation on top of the default House Style.

Thank you - I understand your suggestions starting with "select all: reset design, etc" but not quite sure how to "import one of the Sibelius default House Styles." Can I take my score and somehow import it into the existing score? I've never done that - so not sure how to do it. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Hello - I'm attaching again after importing the default Standard Opus (Times) setting. The thing that appears over every bar line is still there. What is that? Not sure how to get rid of it - but it does seem to be affecting the multi-rests in parts. What I'm attaching I have completely recreated from the much more complicated full score (including 5 other ensembles plus organ). I took out the words and did the import as you suggested - also reset many settings. But the multirests are still dicey. Again - any advice will be much appreciated. I have a LOT of parts to edit and finish in the next few days . . .

Is this more like what you want?

There were some strange false 'Split multirest' and 'keep bars together' symbols these have been deleted and the multirests seem to be working as they should.

I have turned off auto page breaks because they sometimes interfere with part layout in a rather agressive (to me) way. Feel free to turn them on again if you wish.

Thank you Mike - this is exactly what I was hoping for. The false "split multirest" and "keep bars together" symbols were over every barline in the piece. Could you please tell me if you fixed it by selecting and deleting each symbol (which I have been doing - but its unwieldy) - or is there a way to do a "select all" and give one command to remove them all. All I've figured out is when I select the unwanted "split multirest" symbol - I can see the "split multirest" option checked in the properties box - and I can uncheck it or just hit delete. However - if I select multiple bars - the options to edit barlines in the properties box is no longer available. Any tips you could give me how you did the fix would be most appreciated - as I have several more groups of parts similar to this to edit. Thanks again for your help!

Just figured it out - while in a part I did "select all" then went to Layout - Breaks - and "split multirest." All the false split multirest symbols went away - and the multirests are working properly. Thanks to everyone who helped out - I've learned a lot!

That was what I did after initially embarking on a one-by-one purge. I wasn't sure if they were 'real' ones or just symbols. Once I worked it out, it was straightforward!

But no cues for the instruments even though some have 8 or 14 bar rests to count Margie?
