Sib. 7.5: Still can't find ASIO
Posted by Secrets - 20 Feb 08:27PM
The original ASIO thread disappeared for some reason. Your instructions to "go to the Playback Devices Page which is opened by the little arrow in the first section of the Play tab." I don't see any Play tab on the Audio Engine ribbon. Please instruct step by step. Go to the Ribbon, Click "X", then click "Y", then click "Z", etc. Sibelus is the worst piece of trash software that I have ever used. Two weeks and I still can't get someone to clearly describe where ASIO is. The instruction manual is garbage. Very convoluted. Written by idiots who don't know how to explain things clearly. I can't even give this software away. Any readers out there who are reading the forums to decide whether or not to purchase Sibelius, here is the answer. Don't! You will waste hours and hours of time trying to figure out the catastrophically horrific user interface. No one took up my offer of $500 for one day of training at my home in Redwood City. That is because no one else can figure out all the features either. It is a nightmare. I will cross grade to Finale.

What's an "Audio Engine Ribbon"? There's just one Ribbon in Sibelius 7, that big sideways menu with all the pictures at the top of the main page.

If the picture I sent didn't make sense, can you confirm that you actually HAVE Sibelius 7, as the question header states? I'm wondering if you have an earlier version, which will look rather different.

Your post doesn't leave me with any interest in helping. As they say, it's a poor workman who blames his tools...

A good workman chooses good tools. In my case I am going elsewhere to get the good tools. It''s an idiot who works with poor tools. Get my drift you idiot?

Perhaps you'll find Finale intuitive. Or you'll find MuseScore (much simpler, and free!) sufficient for your needs. Or maybe you only really need pen and paper. Good luck!

Step 1. Create a new, empty score or open an existing one.
Step 2. Select the play tab showing on the ribbon.
Step 3. Click the tiny little icon to the bottom right corner of Setup (which is below the first pair of icons on this tab of the ribbon - Configuration and Mixer).
Step 4. In the resulting dialog (Playback Devices) click the button marked [Audio Engine Options] at the bottom left of the dialog.
Step 5. In the Audio Engine Options Dialog which now opens, the first item under Interface is a drop-down list. If you click on the arrow on the right of this, it will show you all available devices. Some will have (DS) after the device name, some will have (MME) and some will have (ASIO) or (WASAPI). Choose the one you want (probably ASIO4ALL from what has been said earlier).
Step 6. Click Close until you get back to your score.

Try putting some notes into your score. Does it make a sound?

Hope this helps.
