Sib. 2.x: accuracy of flexitime on Sibelius 7.5
Posted by Vivienne - 20 Feb 03:45PM

I first bought Sibelius 2 when it came out, and was able to play in music very accurately and easily. (I use flexitime a lot.) When I updated to Sibelius 4, I did not like the changes, and found that flexitime was not as easy - my notation often unrecognizable. So I reverted back to Sibelius 2 and have very happily used it for years. Now I have a dilemma!I have to change my computer from Windows XP to Windows 8.1, on which I am not able to use Sibelius 2! If I knew for sure that I would be able to use flexitime on Sielius 7.5 as easily as I use it on Sibelius 2, I would be very relieved, and I wouldn't have to think about other alternatives. What are other users experience of using flexitime on Sibelius 7.5?
Many thanks
vivienne

Though I don't use flextime I'm guessing it works better in Sib 7.5 that in vs. 2 and you can adjust your settings.

If your ribbon isn't open, push the green arrow at the top-right of the Sib Window and push the Notations tab at the top.

Where you see the Record icon, select the little SE pointing arrow and click on the Notation tab in the resulting window as in the screenshot.

Try changing the Notation length to an eighth note or quarter note if thats what you're entering or you have to many 16th notes.

Don't forget to push "OK".

What were you using for making the playback sound in Sibelius 2? And in Sibelius 4? This may just be the difference between a latency-free playback system and a software synth.

You need to make sure that your sound card/output settings achieve the lowest possible latency (delay) so that playing in through flexitime can be as accurate as possible. You can check the output latency through Play->Playback devices->Audio Engine Options. So much depends on what your hardware is as well.

Make sure you have plenty of RAM!
