Sib. 7.5: Latest News?

Every time I open Sib 7.5.1 and click on "Latest News" a blank page comes up with the ominous title, "Unable to reach news feed." This has gone on for some time, and I'm just wondering, could it be that there is no news, and that possibly it's unlikely there will be any more news?

The Latest News Tab never really took off. . . Just one of the casualties during the time when AVID closed down the UK offices for Sibelius — at the same time that Sibelius 7 was being released.

It might have had a chance had the turmoil never happened. But it did, and the timing of the event worked against any potential development of a new idea like this.


A dead Latest News tab doesn't look good to new users buying into Sibelius for the first time. But having nothing is probably better than other possibilities,. . . mainly AVID using this space as an advertisement for AVID Everywhere, or any other stuff they're looking to promote. . . So let's not complain too much, they just might decide to fill it up with something other than news specifically related to Sibelius.

The "Latest News" tab in Sibelius 7.5 is supposed to show updates from the official Avid blog posts tagged with Sibelius. Avid redesigned their blogs recently and perhaps this link in the program was unintentionally affected by that change.

In Sibelius 7.1.3, the "Latest News" tab shows updates from sibeliusblog.com, which has always been independent of Avid. Daniel Spreadbury started that blog and published on it until November 2012, when I started running it and including occasional non-Sibelius items in it that I think would be interesting to readers. It still seems to work fine in Sibelius 7.1.3 and the posts are current.

I should add that it was Avid's decision to change this, not mine, and Avid also made a corresponding change on various web sites at around the same time as 7.5 was released. I would be happy for links to the sibeliusblog.com posts to be embedded once again on Avid's sites and within the program (perhaps, for clarity, with the same disclaimer about authorship that exists in the Latest News tab), but I also understand that it is perfectly reasonable for Avid to only link to sites that are within its control.
